Heartland Chapter, American Society for Indexing Fall 2014 Meeting: “The Successful Indexing Business” Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, 9:15–4:30 p.m. EDT MCL Township Line Cafeteria, Indianapolis, IN
The Successful Indexing Business: Knowing Where You’re Going and How To Get There
Part I The Roadmap
Do you ever wonder whether your indexing business could be more profitable? Are you considering an indexing career and wondering whether it’s a good fit financially?
People who are satisfied with their business success don’t usually “get there” by accident. They have a roadmap and take their bearings regularly to make sure they’re staying on track.
Small business counselor Larry White will help us craft or revise our own indexing business plans and set ourselves up for success in reaching our individual business goals. In this workshop, we will develop an example indexing business plan; if you’d like, you can also bring your existing business plan to apply what you learn on the spot.
Larry White teaches a variety of business courses at Indiana Tech’s College of Professional Studies and leads small-business seminars and workshops. He recently retired as a small business advisor for the Indiana Small Business Development Center (ISBDC). In his ten years as an ISBDC advisor, Larry has provided counseling and training on a wide range of business topics.
Part II The Destination
What does success look like for you in another five years? In this short workshop, Carol Reed will lead us in drafting a five-year vision. Together with your new business planning skills you’ll leave with a tighter focus on where you’re going and the tools to help you get there.
Location: We will be meeting at the MCL Township Line Cafeteria, 2370 W. 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN. The cafeteria opens at 11:00 a.m., but we are able to start registration at 9:15.
Lunch: We will go through the cafeteria line for lunch. MCL Cafeteria features a wide variety of home-cooked American foods. The cost of your lunch is not included in the registration fee, so bring extra cash for lunch.
What to bring: Journal or laptop/tablet for drafting your vision. You’re welcome to bring your existing business plan, but that’s optional.
